A pavement stall is organised as a simple structural band: produce laid out on trestle tables runs horizontally through the centre of the picture. Figures sit to either side, bracketing the goods and keeping the exchange—buying, selling, waiting—close to the surface. The shallow space and firm alignment give a street scene the steadiness of a frieze.
