A long line of figures runs across a narrow horizontal strip, reading like a slow-moving queue in a public space. The closeness of the bodies and the extended format emphasise duration and collective movement from left to right. In the second plate, aquatint deepens the tonal field around the figures, tightening the sense of crowding.
