A grid of small portrait panels presents different figures associated with the Prologue of Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales. Heads and shoulders are brought close to the picture plane, with little surrounding detail. At the right, a larger panel opens onto an outdoor setting, keyed to the portrait grid beside it.
